Peanuts 1st Swim Meet!

Filed under: Uncategorized — lafphotography @ 11:44 am

After only 5 weeks of practice Meredyth attended her first swim meet. At first i thought I may very well be more nervous than she was, I quickly realized that wasnt true..=( My poor baby girl got so frustrated just warming up that she was in tears before her first race! Luckily with a little Coach Anthony pep talk, some daddy love and Miss Liz saying she would cry too if Meredyth didnt stop, she focused her attention where it needed to be.

She’s really nervous about being “on the block”….she kinda wobbles every time she stands up there and then doesnt want to let go.

But I was soooooo proud of her!! For her first event she swam the 100 yd Free Style….this from a child that just 6 weeks ago I was scared to leave at practice for fear she may sink straight to the bottom! She would try to hold her breath all the way across the pool because she “didnt like breathing on the side”.

Then she swam the 50 yard Butterfly and Backstroke. I dont even remember what “place” she was in. Just that she finished and I was so PROUD! meredythBrunswickSwim (45 of 58)

Meet Devon, she is a Senior in High School this year. Whoo Hoo, shout out to c/o 2010!

She is absolutely famous for ALWAYS SMILING! So when I said okay I need your serious “Tyra Banks” model face, she laughed. Thats not what I was going for..lol So I said, how about you take a deep breath, and think back to how you felt on your first day of High School….yeah I know, I was terrified and excited. But as she thought about it, she relaxed and she I think began to feel a sense of relief even. So my contemplative moment for I HEART FACES this week is Miss Devon…little girl Ive watched grow since 1st grade….Varsity Cheerleader, Friend, Babysitter, Big Sister, A+ student, Oldest child, loved girlfriend, sister, niece and daughter.

Congrats Devon, I like so many others couldnt be more proud of you!

This weeks contest is for Silly Wacky Faces!

I couldnt help  myself, I just had to post this picture and enter it into the contest! We were at the Jacksonville Zoo, enjoying some fun water time to cool off our scorching hot Florida Sun bodies, when I told the kids to make a funny face for a picture I would be framing for Uncle Art & Aunt Ditty.

This is what I got! I love these little monkeys!

Standing on a stage with a microphone in your hands. Thousands of adoring fans screaming your name. Loving you for what you do. I imagine this is as close as I’ll ever be to that, and that is FINE WITH ME!!!!

Meet Amy “worksafulltimejobhasfourkidsahusbandwho’sstationedinVa.andanamazingsmile” Anderson! When she emailed me last week asking me to take more family pictures I was so excited and nervous. But the kids were great, the weather cooperated and I can only hope that I wont let her down! Thank you Amy, for trusting me with your family portrait session. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

wait a minute…

Filed under: Uncategorized — lafphotography @ 7:25 pm

Okay….somehow I got left alone with myself for like 20 minutes today and realized something. It’s not that I dont think Im any good at photography….it’s that I dont think Im good enough to get paid for it! ahhhhh yes…why is it I feel like im less than worthy of being paid for my time and energy and dare I say it…(drumroll please…..) Talent???? I mean Im better than the average joe shmo with a DSLR…but I look at the work of people I admire and think, yeah right! I’ll never be that good. But is it really more talent? Maybe better equipment, that just means more money. Is it that they dont have 3 little kids running around painting the walls while they try to learn a new technique in photo shop. Is it the schools and seminars they’ve attended or the 100’s of gorgeous clients they have to choose from? Or maybe…just maybe…it’s the confidence they have in themselves to put it all out there on the line and say Im good, so this is what Im worth. Here are your photos….yes you actually have to pay me for them. Maybe it is that they have the good sense to know freelance, wedding, portrait or journalism…..it’s a job! So then I ask myself, where do I buy some of that confidence??

I need to find it…what kind of example would I be to my beautiful daughters (and son) if I couldn’t?

And what type of photog would I be if I didnt give props to one of my fave peeps who never complains that I have a camera in her face ;) …luv u mel bel!!

Am I just dreaming..?

Filed under: Uncategorized — lafphotography @ 11:43 am

Have you ever wanted to be good at something so bad it makes you cry? Not recognized for being good at it….not rich or famous or an international phenom. Just confident and strong and good at something you love doing. Maybe the seceret is to not care if you are good at it but to love it. I mean, I love love love my camera, I love the fact that even though I live life at “the speed of light” (so my doctor says) when I have my camera in my hand, everything slows down for me. I am not spazzing about bills or laundry or baseball practice. Im just me with a camera. I can see things and people for what they really are. It’s nice when people say “Oh Amber that is a great picture, she’s beautiful”…of course that makes me feel good. But what I see and what I hope to capture in a photo should make someone say, “Oh Amber…wow, look at how in love they are”, or “I can almost feel how happy they are as a family together”. Those are the things I see and feel when Im at a session. I feel like I wont really be good at what “I do” until I can really show the emotion of the situation. I’m not really sure what Im rambling about…..I just know that I want to take more photos…I want to get better, I want to never feel overwhelmed or frustrated by working with my camera. I love experimenting with,  learning about and teaching photography. It’s my outlet, that thing I do when i feel like the rest of my world is going to fall apart, nothing is right and Im barely keeping myself together. (you know…what I really mean is when the kids are driving me crazy…lol..) So I guess I hope others will enjoy my photography also. But as for now it’s back to the crazy schedule that is my life, off to get the lil man from school..lunch…clothes…plant flowers…dinner…baseball and then maybe some cuddle time with Daddy!
